What Can I Paint?

At The Pottery Lounge, the short answer is — quite a lot.

Our shelves are filled with over 20+ handcrafted ceramic pieces, all locally made and carefully selected to give you a range of shapes, sizes and creative possibilities. From everyday favourites like cups and mugs to coasters, jugs, bowls and vases, each piece is designed to be both functional and something worth keeping long after your session.

Every item starts as a blank canvas — ready for you to transform into something completely your own. Whether you’re drawn to clean, minimal tones, soft neutrals, bold colours or playful patterns, there’s no right or wrong approach. Some guests come in with a clear vision, while others decide as they go — both are part of the experience.

You’ll have access to over 50 professional underglaze colours, allowing you to layer, mix and experiment to create a finish that feels uniquely yours. From simple stripes and colour blocking to more detailed illustrations or personalised pieces, the process is designed to be as relaxing or as creative as you want it to be.

If you're looking to create something a little more curated, we also offer the option to mix and match smaller pieces — including espresso cups, coasters and bud vases — perfect for building your own custom set or a thoughtful, handmade gift. It’s a popular choice for couples, friends or anyone wanting a cohesive collection to take home.

Whether you're making a keepsake from your time in Queenstown, a gift for someone else, or simply enjoying the process of slowing down and creating something by hand, there’s a piece here for you.

And the best part — once you’re finished, we take care of the glazing and firing process, transforming your design into a durable, food-safe ceramic piece ready to be used and enjoyed for years to come.
