Abbots Lowfire Brushable Glaze CLEAR (Cone 2-6)

Abbots Clear Cone 2–6 is a glossy transparent glaze for showing the clay or underglaze decoration underneath. This low-expansion formulation is blended in New Zealand and is specifically matched by the supplier to Primo PW20 White Clay and Primo Midfire Porcelain.

Colour & firing notes

The specified range is cone 2–6, approximately 1100–1220°C. Despite the supplier's “Lowfire” product name, this is not a cone 06 glaze. Test compatibility with other clay bodies and underglazes.

How to apply

• Stir the brushable glaze thoroughly, then follow the jar directions for application. Let each coat dry before adding another.
• When layering, test the combined thickness rather than applying two full coatings automatically. Protect the shelf when testing fluid glazes.

Food-contact suitability

Check the current jar label for food-contact suitability. A finished piece needs a sound, cleanable glaze surface that fits the clay and has matured correctly; a product label alone does not certify every clay, glaze or layered combination.

Before glazing a full piece

Fire a test tile on your chosen clay before glazing a full piece. Record the coats, firing cone and cooling programme. Photographs show example fired results; clay colour, kiln atmosphere and application can change the appearance.
