Colour & firing notes

Decorative use only. Suggested layering partners include White Oilspot, Celadon, Hazy Blue, Ivory Flux, Deep Glossy Red, Grannysmith, Variegated Blue and Butterscotch.

How to apply

  • Stir the brushable glaze thoroughly, then follow the jar directions for application. Let each coat dry before adding another.
  • When layering, test the combined thickness rather than applying two full coatings automatically. Protect the shelf when testing fluid glazes.
  • Abbots develops its midfire colours around cone 5–6 heatwork. Use witness cones to check maturity; copying a controller temperature alone will not reproduce another kiln.

Food-contact suitability

For decorative and non-food-contact surfaces. Keep this glaze off food-contact areas and the drinking rim; the supplier does not recommend it for those uses.

Before glazing a full piece

Fire a test tile on your chosen clay before glazing a full piece. Record the coats, firing cone and cooling programme. Photographs show example fired results; clay colour, kiln atmosphere and application can change the appearance.
