Amaco Cosmos Midfire Brushable Glaze CO-14 Solar Rainbow

CO-14 Solar Rainbow is a dark glossy glaze with iridescent crystals. Thin breaks can appear translucent, while the crystalline areas give changing rainbow-like highlights.

Colour & firing notes

Amaco currently recommends cone 6 for the strongest result, with cone 5 also possible. The glaze is highly fluid, so leave about 13 mm above the foot and use a catch tray.

How to apply

• Apply four coats to cone 04 bisque. Keep the inside or back of the form unglazed for the manufacturer’s preferred decorative result.
• A normal medium-speed firing can produce crystals; controlled cooling can increase crystal growth. Test the programme before using it on a finished piece.

Food-contact suitability

Amaco does not recommend Cosmos for food-contact surfaces because of durability. Use for decorative work and keep it away from drinking rims and food-contact areas.

Before glazing a full piece

Fire a test tile on your chosen clay before glazing a full piece. Record the coats, firing cone and cooling programme. Photographs show example fired results; clay colour, kiln atmosphere and application can change the appearance.
