Colour & firing notes

At cone 10 reduction, the colour becomes more concentrated. For the higher-fire samples, Mayco recommends SW-001 Stoneware Clear over this colour.

How to apply

  • Shake well and apply 2–3 coats to wet clay, greenware or cone 04 bisque. Keep excess colour out of deep texture.
  • For decorated greenware, dry and bisque fire before adding a compatible clear glaze. Match the glaze firing to the clay and clear glaze: cone 06–05 for suitable earthenware or the specified stoneware cone.

Food-contact suitability

Use a compatible clear or matte-clear glaze over the underglaze for dinnerware. The clear glaze also intensifies the colour. Check the product-specific clear recommendation and test the completed surface.

Before glazing a full piece

Fire a test tile on your chosen clay before glazing a full piece. Record the coats, firing cone and cooling programme. Photographs show example fired results; clay colour, kiln atmosphere and application can change the appearance.
