Colour & firing notes

At cone 6 the base and crystal colours fade as the crystals melt further.

How to apply

  • Stir and shake thoroughly, including the settled crystals. Apply 2–3 even coats to cone 04 bisque with a soft brush and let coats dry.
  • Distribute the crystals on the final coat and avoid a heavy deposit near the base. The crystals melt into the pattern where you place them.
  • Cone 6 trials have more flow and may develop surface defects. Use stoneware clay, recede coverage near the foot and protect the shelf. Cone 06 and cone 6 are very different firing temperatures.

Food-contact suitability

Recommended for decorative ware. The crystal surface can craze or develop texture, so keep it off food-contact areas and drinking rims. Adding clear glaze does not automatically remove those limitations.

Before glazing a full piece

Fire a test tile on your chosen clay before glazing a full piece. Record the coats, firing cone and cooling programme. Photographs show example fired results; clay colour, kiln atmosphere and application can change the appearance.
