Every firing tells a different story.
Your clay, application and kiln all leave their mark. Always make a test tile, follow the product’s firing guide and check suitability for your finished piece.

Match the glaze to your clay and kiln.
Check the clay body’s recommended firing range, then compare it with the individual glaze instructions. Cone 06 and cone 6 are different firing ranges: the leading zero matters. Use each product’s application and firing guide before you buy.
Compare a glaze with an underglaze.
Underglazes are useful for painting patterns, details and areas of colour. Mayco Fundamentals colours generally use a suitable clear glaze to develop the finished surface. Glaze effects vary by range, so check the individual product instructions.
Make a test tile.
Clay colour, coat thickness, firing and cooling all affect the result. Product photographs show examples. Test combinations in your own kiln and check product-specific guidance before using a glaze on food-contact surfaces.
